- Nomination Statement: Ruth Wairimu Kamau – Pride of Africa Asia Awards: Education
and Academic Achievement
My name is Ruth Wairimu Kamau, born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, and for the past 15 years,
I have proudly called Beijing, China my second home. As an African educator thriving in Asia
Pacific, I have consistently worked to uplift the image of Africa through education, academic
excellence, and cross-cultural collaboration. I am deeply honored to be nominated for the Pride
of Africa Asia Awards under the Education and Academic Achievement category.
In my current role as an Early Years Homeroom International Lead Teacher at Beijing
International Bilingual Academy (BIBA) a leading international bilingual school in China, I take
pride in creating nurturing, play-based learning environments that celebrate diversity and
curiosity. My work involves designing developmentally appropriate plans, leading whole-class
and small-group learning, and mentoring teachers. My role is not just about teaching—it’s about
fostering global citizens who understand the value of inclusivity, empathy, and creativity.
Beyond the classroom, I play an active leadership role in mentoring, teacher training, and
curriculum development. I conduct parent training on child development and lead parent-teacher
conferences to bridge the gap between home and school. Recognizing the power of strong
partnerships, I continuously seek to empower both families and fellow educators to support
children’s holistic growth.
My passion for education also led me to roles such as Academic Supervisor and Regional
Academic Supervisor at Etonkids Education Group, where I supervised four kindergartens,
developed professional development programs, and led curriculum review committees. These
roles allowed me to influence educational practice across multiple campuses and promote quality
teaching standards in early years education.
I also served as Associate Director of the Global STEAM Association, where I helped shape
programs that equipped K–12 learners with critical 21st-century skills including communication,
collaboration, creativity, and digital literacy. My impact has extended beyond the walls of
traditional classrooms into global conversations about innovation and equity in education.
Over the years, I’ve received multiple recognitions, including the Best Chinese-Western
Collaboration Award and the Outstanding Teachers’ Award at BIBA, as well as the Best
Regional Academic Supervisor of the Year at Etonkids. These achievements reflect my
dedication to academic excellence, collaboration, and cultural understanding.
As a proud Kenyan woman, I carry the spirit of Africa into every space I occupy. In a region
where African representation in education leadership is rare, I’ve embraced the responsibility of
showing what is possible. I mentor other African educators and serve as a beacon of possibility
for students and communities from underrepresented backgrounds.
I believe the Pride of Africa Asia Award is not just about celebrating accomplishments it’s about
honoring a legacy of dedication, resilience, and vision. I am committed to continuing my journey
of impact and excellence, not only as an educator but as an African changemaker in the heart of
Asia.
