I am currently based in the Culture Department of CGTN (China Global Television Network) within the China Media Group, a company that operates, TV, radio and online programs for an international audience.
I work with a team of reporters and editors to create and perfect content about Chinese culture and cultural exchanges between China and places around the world. To that extent, I have had several opportunities to promote and engage audiences in China-Africa cultural exchange.
A large part of my job is sourcing content for our China Plus South Africa Facebook page, through which I have been able to show South African and African culture and life to social media users around the world.
Last year’s FOCAC summit presented an opportunity for me and a small team to highlight aspects of African culture in Beijing and China-Africa cultural exchange. Through videos and articles, we were able to showcase African restaurants in Beijing, an African art gallery in the city, as well as the fascinating story of Chinese musician Liu Chen who studied kora instrument in Mali.
In addition to this pre-FOCAC series, I also reported on:
* The African film seminar at the Beijing International Film Festival in April 2024.
* An interview with Formed Police Unit actress Alazi Soumalia “Mulan” Rawdoth from Benin in May 2024.
* And an interview with South African tourism minister Patricia de Lille in November 2023.
I hope that my work, like the African Appreciation Network and the Pride of Africa awards, continues to highlight African excellence and the effective links created by China-Africa cultural exchange.
